Searching for Extinct Chlorine-36 in Enstatite Chondrites: New Constraints on the Distribution of Short-lived Nuclides in the Solar Nebula

چکیده
Introduction: The origin of short-lived nuclides in the solar nebula is a long standing controversial issue. There are two major explanations: injection from neighboring supernovae or AGB stars [1-3], or in situ irradiation of nebular dust and gas by solar energetic particles (SEP) [4-7]. The distribution of short-lived nuclides in the solar nebula is a key test of these models. Unlike

THE Cs-Ba CHRONOMETER AND THE ORIGIN OF EXTINCT NUCLIDES IN THE SOLAR
Introduction: A number of now extinct shortlived nuclides, with half-lives ranging from ~10 (Ca) to 10 years (Sm), were present in the early Solar System and provide constraints on chronometry, nucleosynthetic sources of early Solar System materials and provide a tool for identifying the environment where the Solar System formed (such as isolated star formation versus formation in a cluster of ...
متن کاملShort-lived chlorine-36 in a Ca- and Al-rich inclusion from the Ningqiang carbonaceous chondrite.
Excesses of sulfur-36 in sodalite, a chlorine-rich mineral, in a calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusion from the Ningqiang carbonaceous chondrite linearly correlate with chorine/sulfur ratios, providing direct evidence for the presence of short-lived chlorine-36 (with a half-life of 0.3 million years) in the early solar system. The best inferred (36Cl/35Cl)o ratios of the sodalite are approximate...
متن کاملHomogeneity of Tellurium Isotopes in Chondrites, Leachates of Allende and Canyon Diablo
Introduction: Sn decays to Te with a half-life of 0.235 Myrs and is a possible short-lived chronometer for early solar system development. Sn can only be produced in significant amounts by the r-process, which is thought to take place in a supernova environment. The discovery of Te excesses that correlate with Sn/Te in meteorites would thus provide confirmation of the theory that a supernova in...
متن کاملOxygen isotopes in calcium^aluminum-rich inclusions from enstatite chondrites: new evidence for a single CAI source in the solar nebula
Calcium^aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) from enstatite chondrites have large 16O excesses, similar to CAIs in carbonaceous and ordinary chondrites, and are also similar in morphology, mineralogy and Al^Mg isotopic systematics. These similarities provide new evidence that most CAIs might have formed in a single, restricted nebular locale and were then distributed unevenly throughout the various ...
متن کاملEnstatite Meteorites – Samples of the Inner Protoplanetary Disk?
Introduction: The two groups of enstatite chondrites (EH and EL) and aubrites, their differentiated counterparts, are a unique suite of specimens that formed under highly reducing conditions within the solar nebula, possibly on three separate parent bodies [1]. The reduced nature of the meteorites is shown by their unusual mineralogy, characterised by the presence of abundant sulphides. They al...
